Yes Fetch, your question is essentially what I started with in 40,836 and the batters I named in the positive/ negative column. It's also possibly why Crawley was able to get runs today even if you don't call him a success overall but as you say, he probably doesn't succeed in the standard approach either. Can apply that to the top 3 I think and Bairstow is better playing in an attacking way. I still feel like Stokes should try doing it like Bairstow generally did last year where he built into hyper aggressiveness (I was only half joking when I said I think he sacrifices himself as an example for the others, lol).

Yes it was a fast innings, but I don't think it was belligerent in a way that the evolution of the sport has now created.

I think that's it. Stokes has looked at his team and thought what is best, how do I get the best out of them. The answer is play with as much freedom to play shots as you can imagine. See the ODI team and Morgan. I reckon they declared here because you're not getting many once Broad gets out, and, they are looking at the weather. Stokes is always being asked what are you thinking with this Bazball, in this case it's get as many as quickly, and get them in because we might only have 3 and half days. |

At least none of us are saying why didn't Stokes at least get to 400 before declaring 😉 The freedom point is a good one as I think you can create the we believe in you mentality without the attacking mentality, but you do have bad shots that way which could lead to inhibited freedom. Current approach of the only bad shot is the one you didn't play is proper freedom. |

I still can't get used to it! I can't help thinking it's all going to go horribly wrong.

Hope your first day of test cricket is better than mine Bazoaxe. I was 11 and went with my brother and his friends to the Ashes match 1964 at Old Trafford. We sat on the grass outside of the boundary ropes as all the seats were taken. At start of play, day 3 Saturday, Australia were 570 - 4 with Bob Simpson unbeaten on 256, still the first innings of the match. I saw him get 311*, Australia declared on 656 - 8. At close of play England were 162 - 2, with Dexter on 71* and Barrington on 20* - they went on to make 174 and 256 respectively. So I saw 248 runs and 6 wickets, off 110 overs. I'll attach the scorecard, the scoring rates aren't exactly Bazball. |

Sounds sad Christy, but I think I wouldve loved that game.
