"Unless the state also fund their schools so they can invest in sports, and pay the staff enough that they want to do the extra-curricular activities"
Yes, precisely.
But until the private school scams are abolished, there will never be the pressure and opportunity to do this.
The selling off of school fields for building houses in the 80s is also a big issue.
Appreciate veering away from cricket, but schools *should* be acting like community hubs where extra-curricular activities of all sorts (sports, arts, etc) are available to all kids (and transport between these hubs is available) and then this continues to sports clubs and adult activities in the evenings.
A number of issues and barriers to solve with this idea, but I think the basic idea is the *only* way to (a) level the playing field and (b) create bigger pools of talented juniors in all sports - including cricket.
The fact it all relies on a public school system at present is a total scandal - the wealthy already have an advantage of wealth, and we then afford them the advantage of opportunity.
Politics over.
Can Yorkshire take 10 wickets on track that seems to be flattening out...

Interesting that all 4 of the second division matches may well end in an innings victory. I wonder how often that has happened?

Our second XI game was horribly one-sided.
Top of my bucket list of grounds I'd most like to visit is Galle. This surprises even me, but there you have it.
We're having a bit of a bowl against Northants. Suspect we may be trying to freeze them to death. I'll probably sneak down for a few overs after work so will report back later.

Ditto at Trent Bridge.
The bowling at well lagged batsmen bit, not the going to watch later bit.
Peter Such is listed as third umpire.

I'd certainly like a visit to Sri Lanka.
It's also freezing here. The sort of day that logic says to bowl but it's probably too cold for the ball to bother to misbehave. At least, that's what I hope as my wonderfully volatile side has been put in. You may have the result by close of play, even if the game is not concluded.

So Stokes, as expected. The only choice.
