Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Wow, what a finish. Brilliant knock from the beard that's feared, but just not quite enough.

A bit of last day heroics shouldn't distract us from some woeful stuff otherwise. A match we were winning comfortably on Saturday night was only almost saved by a number 11 epic. It should not have come to that.

Cook needs to go off and do a lot of batting for Essex. No ODIs for him. Long innings.

TBH, I think I could pick a better England XI from the players not playing.

Yup. We drew one we should have one, we lost one that we looked very comfortable in towards the end of the second day. Loved the number 11 epic, and very sorry to see it collapse with one ball to go, but even if it had come off, there is a very serious problem. Great finish though, it's a bit of a classic Test.

Supposing that Cook decided to stand down, who would we favour as a replacement? I have no idea; everyone seems to be too young, too old or too foolhardy (I just can't see Broad as a Test captain).

Incidentally, wasn't Cook having a good go at batting for Essex before the Sri Lanka tour, with no real effect? He even turned up to bat and captain against Cambridge University, which is usually a "let's try out the wannabes in the second XI" kind of match, but this year featured Cook, Panesar, Bopara...

He was and even blew a chance to make a declaration and force a win against Surrey so he could get his ton.

However, surely some batting is a better remedy for a problem than doing none whatsoever?

Captain needs to be someone who is certain to be picked every match so limits us to Root, Broad, Jimmy, Bell if Cook resigns

The T20 at my place was pretty exciting tonight actually. Glos needed 1 off the last ball to win and got an awesome boundary.

We do have a ball that hit our balcony :) Luckily the windows haven't broken when hit so far. The cricket club pay to replace them if they do break.
