Dernbach ODI 31 wkts at 42! He only avge 2 with the bat so you could understand if a big hitter
He's like Bob Willis but without the bowling ability
At least he's already in the record books, no other England player has taken more wickets for his country averaging over 40!

I guess on the positive at least current form means the ECB can;t take the easy option and give the Head Coach gig to the King of Spain, and will have to try and recruit a proper, experienced head coach.

Narine is a clever bowler. He turns it enough to get edges and miscues. He has a lot of disguise so batsmen can't read him. Of course, if you can come down the track to the pitch, then the spin doesn't matter. But since when has an England batsman ever used his feet.
It would be interested to see an England side selected by supporter vote. Would it do better or worse?

Indeed The tea, you only have to spin it half of the width of the bat as somebody or other used to say......

Exactly. Plus with spinners, you always have more doubt in the minds of the batsmen. The onus is on them to put the pace on the ball, so they have to commit fully to a shot. There is much more room for error in playing a full blooded shot to a slow bowler. Narine's economy rates are outstanding in the IPL and they know how to play spinners there. He isn't effective at test level because the batsman doesn't need to score as heavily - they can just wait for the bad ball and block the rest. There you need a spinner that actually does something. One-day cricket is full of twirlers who basically bowl slow, straight darts very effectively.

Wonder why that didn't work for us back in the day, when Richards, Greenidge, Haynes, Gomes, Lloyd et al were clubbing the likes of Edmonds, Emburey, Hemmings, Such, Marks and Cook around the park

Marts
To be fair QMac they pretty much clubbed every type of bowler all around the world Scary to think how many runs they would have put up on short boundaries that we have now. Would've needed 5 fielders *behind* the rope rather than on it!

Not to mention what they would have done had Jade Dernbach sent a few down....

I think if Sir Viv had faced JD they would still be looking for the ball

I know Marts, I like to programme the latest International Cricket Captain iteration with the performances of the past and present teams and have played many WI Past v Present teams and it probably has come out slightly 55-45 in the past greats favour
