The guy who collapsed (with what looked like major cramp in his hamstring) in front of me definitely looked like a lean, mean athletic type - not sure if he finished but it looked pretty bad. Also, my friends brother who is a 1:2 ish half marathoner and was going for 3 hours bonked at 30KM and came in a few seconds behind me (3:23). I think he seemed to suffer in the heat and he is a very experienced runner. As KWeb says, a lot can go pear shaped in a marathon. I definitely think the heat caught people out as it was unexpected. Had I thought it would be so warm I wold have put sun tan lotion on and avoided, as my mate calls it a "twat tan" LOL

Jovi, that sounds like the 1st casualty of the day at our marshalling point.
We gave him water and an impromptu massage and he hobbled off again. The worst cramps and collapses were those in the 3:30-4:30 time range. A few got to sample the services of the AE dept at my hospital

don't let the Tories know you've been doing impromtu A&E - they'll use it as a blue print for the rest of the NHS

I suspect it was the heat that got me, dehydration and lack of salt - nevermind! Resting this week, mainly from the attack I got from a marshal with abt 1mile to go - who hit me with an inflatable thing!!!

How awful for you Barky. Maybe you should complain and get the marshal suitably reprimanded!
Or maybe flapjack at Helsby will serve as compensation

To avoid having two threads with the same marathon name, thought I'd re-use this one and ask "Who's in then?" for this year?
I know there's some from the 3:30 and 3:15 threads, but maybe fetchies of all target paces could come together here.
Debut 26.2 for me. And good luck to anyone running it. Fingers crossed for appropriate weather!!

Just spotted a small route change for 2017 on the Chester course - I think they've tried to reduce the amount of time on the horse racing track, so it looks like it starts further round, and then has to navigate what could be a bit of a bottle-neck hairpin with Raymond Street going onto Garden Lane (it previously went straight up Canal Street).
Think reducing the amount of grass is probably a good idea in the grand scheme of things, hopefully the hairpin won't cause too many issues!

In theory, yes. But as I still cannot run at the moment it's looking doubtful (which may be a blessing as I've not had a run over 10 miles for 2 months!)
