Mabel looks like she's going to sting you with a barbed sarcastic meiow.

I'm sure with time and patience Trudy will stop hiding.

That face does seem to be judging you!
Don’t stress yet cats do like to observe and judge and hiding will allow this.

There are few joys in life better than a contented cat on your lap, IMNSHO.

Awwww Dell, lovely that she is already on your lap.
If it is any consolation: Lasya, the most confident kitten that ever existed, hid somewhere for 3 days after arriving home! I had absolutely no idea where and was quite worried but she did use the tray.
They she appeared from behind my wheel bags, where I had looked!!! On the third day to be a purry, chatty, confident lap cat ever since.

Lennox hid for the 1st few days. So well infact that I thought she had somehow escaped. I eventually found her squeezed in behind a bookcase.

This was 11.30 last night.... Her head has pinned my ankle to the bed. She is pressed up along the inside of my leg with her bottom on the hot water bottle making happy snoring noises. I on the other hand am very uncomfortable and wide awake.

Yes, we lost one of our previous new rescues behind a drawer in the fitted kitchen. Knocked on all the neighbours doors thinking she nust have escaped somehow as we couldn't find her anywhere in the house! She just hopped out when we opened the drawer the following day and was soppy as anything from then on.
