Saturday is caturday for us, I think I’ve
got it covered but any tips for settling in new, older cats from those who have been through it ?

We watched all the Simon's Cat videos, read the leaflets from the cat centre, kept him in one room to start with, and indoors for a bit (sorry can't remember, but not as long as they suggest), we were lucky he wanted to stay around especially as he was underweight so keen to know where his next meal was.

Lennox was a bit older and a stray. I put her bed under my bed and she loved it- she was safe but could see who entered the room. It also took time for her to feel settled, so don't rush them.

Like Lizzy I Kept her in for a couple of months but it was winter and being a stray think she had had more than enough time outside so was quite content inside.

So many new additions to the thread :-)

Moon is 10. We kept him in one room for a couple of days. We had a blanket from his foster parents to bring his smell with him. After that he was allowed supervised access to the rest of the house until he knew how to get about. Apart from a couple of hairy moments whilst he learned whereabouts of the stairs (he's blind), that was that. He's an indoor cat, so we haven't had to worry about when to let him outside. I would say having the central heating on is a sure way to settle a cat. ;-)

Good luck, Nat!

Thanks all. You’ve pretty much said what I’ve been thinking. 😺😺

The rescue have told us to keep them in for 3-4 weeks. They are older cats, laid back and love people. But it will obviously will be unsettling for them.

I’d been intending to settle them in the kitchen for a while on the day we get them eg just put the cat carriers in a corner, open the doors and retreat to let them do their thing. The kitchen leads to the living room, so after a little while let them in but keep very much out of their face, and keep this downstairs space as their area for a little while. Eventually we will let them upstairs in to the office and spare room but in “phase 2” of settling I think.

I’d thought about getting a blanket from their foster home too, I’m sure their foster mum can give me something.

Ndellar, sweat up a couple of running shirts and leave them lying around. I suspect, that after an initial hesitation, the cats will be "right, is that our sofa? Good. Now why isn't someone here stroking us?'
