You can save money by project managing yourself:
Demolish the structure yourself and hire a skip to dispose of all the waste. Get a JCB driver and dig the footings (make sure you check where all the services are, depth needs to be confirmed with the Building Regulations). Bring in the readymix to fill the foundations. Pour the floor slab, including DPC (details confirmed Building Regulations). Hire the bricklayers to build the walls. Get your local window company to fit the windows and doors. Hire the plasterer to plaster internal walls.
All that should probably save you £10k.

Thanks B Rubble.
Yes I'd considered that. There are a few reasons I wanted to go with a builder - mainly because I'm not up to speed on all the building regs. Also not sure if we can get a digger in to do the foundations yet. Might get a mini digger in, but certainly not a JCB down the side of the house.
But I do know a bricklayer that would do the walls and structure for me and i know a decent roofer. And as you say, can get a local window firm to do the doors/windows for me.
The other reason I was veering away from that route was because I know that it's likely to drag on for a few months if I go that way. A builder managing it would get it done in about 2 weeks.
But it's now looking likely that I'll have to manage it myself.
Other thing I'm planning to do is to see if anyone will buy the conservatory. Might not get me much cash, but would save on skip fees.

'mini diggers' are designed to go through a standard door way.
I've got a number for a good sparky, he's based in Huddersfield, but no reason he wouldn't travel.

That's what I thought. The guy who quoted me said a mini digger wouldn't fit and it would have to be done by hand.
Which sounded wrong

No worries, I'll clarify by saying probably not all mini diggers fit through doors but some definitely do!

There are 'compact', 'micro' or 'mini' diggers depending on which hire company you talk to which are typically only 70cm or so wide. Great fun too, although as B Rubble said, make sure you know where services are.

Frank Lloyd Wright designed a home for the president of Johnson Wax called Wingspread. Mr Johnson was hosting a dinner party and the roof in the dining room started to leak, with water droplets landing directly on his head. He had the phone brought to the table and made a long distance call to Wright who at the time was in Arizona. He angrily complained about the leaking roof and asked “what do you suggest I do about it” and Wright replied “Well Herbert, I would start by moving your chair”
