There were times I got hung up on the numbers & saw it as a monkey on my back & rushed to get there & wish I hadn't. In hindsight I would have been more selective of races like I now am

Yep! That's my approach I did increase from 2 a year, but have never gone beyond 18 a year (I think!), which some people now do in a month, or 18 days
I'm totally biased but some races, like the Highland Fling, feel so much more enjoyable than bashing out endless boring city marathon's. Not that I've completed many boring city marathons so not really in a place to be disrespectful

FR - I pick races that sound like fun, or that are places I have never been to, so I get to have a view of a city/town from a perspective that is not just from the 'tourist' angle. It might take me a bit longer, but I'll get bored if I just rack 'em up for the sake of it.
(and I'm injury prone.....)

I go out of my way to find big city marathons - I love the true test of road races & have been fortunate enough to visit some lovely cities.
That said I'm only 2 trail marathons from a half century.

I am aiming for the 100 club although until I;ve deifnitely accepted I can't get any faster am currently only doing a few a year so I can target specific races. I am hoping to get there in the next 10 years - although currently only at 27!
