Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The annual spring marathon on the south coast has some minor course adjustments and starting time. Plenty for us non-VMLM runners to chat about in the coming months.

Marathon now starting at 9.45 am to allow people more time to get to the start. There's a shorter section after turning into North Lane(?) at the back of the Royal Pavilion so it doesn't reach the shops in North Street. This is so the Sunday traders aren't upset! The climb up St James' Street has been removed for a similar reason, so we now go straight to the pier and turn left up towards the Marina. Finally, to make up the distance lost above, the small climb from the roundabout in the Rottingdean direction has been reinstated.

This remains one of my favourite races each year. A vast majority of spectators have a interest in individuals taking part and is more personable than London with the capital's course congestion and endless banging of drums!

Whereas entry numbers have gone up, Fetchies taking part have declined since peaking at 219 in 2011. For the first time, less than 100 took part last year and we just have 33 so far in 2018. Hopefully, more have entered but are yet to update the Race Portfolios.

Has anyone entered and can't run it. Look for a place and to see if they can do a name change

Did you get any joy, Lorne? There are charity places still available if you're interested and they won't be asking for London Marathon sized fundraising either.

Thanks sallykate. We all look forward to seeing you guys around mile 19.

Mini-Mile entries open today. Anybody's children taking part in Saturday's prelude? My son is looking forward to his seventh race since he was old enough to take part.

As with the past two years, Preston Park Station will not be open on marathon morning. Hopefully, I'll get a lift to Withdean and walk the mile to Preston Park.

I'm wondering whether the closure of the station has influenced the decision to start the marathon and BM10k half-an-hour later this year.
