Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I don' think I am friends with him there. I'll have a search. Someone called Hatpin has started following my reviews. They appear to read a lot of the stuff you like, Gerp, is it anyone you know?

You can stand on it when you want to get some smaller books from a higher shelf.

Columba
Started reading a book called "The Roman Persuasion"; published in 1981 but set in the 1930s, and is clearly going to be about (or partly about) the Spanish civil war. Not sure that I'm going to like it. I was given it (a second-hand copy) by someone who probably thought I was sure to like it because it's A Catholic Novel and I'm a Catholic. But it doesn't follow.

That reminds me of an OU course I did years ago Columba, called Literature in the Modern Age (I think). The chap who devised the course was a convert to Catholicism and had selected authors who had largely done the same and works which reflected their struggles to reconcile their faith and upbringing. Interesting enough for one book but very tedious across a whole course. Even the bits that weren't about religion he made about religion in terms of the essay questions etc.
