I had hoped that if it was sorted then the "Cup" would come back as well (i.e it was taking it's position from the time in the summits list not from the counter in the top right) but it hasn't. Which means that afaik it moves at Sabrina's average pace across the whole round (including stops) James now has to move at faster than Sabrina's average pace for the rest of his round to break the record. Something that with the best will in the world I can't see being possible. And any rest he takes will put him further behind the "Cup". Am I missing something or does that sound right?

Yeah, sounds right ff - the Cup has nothing at all to do with James's round, it says "The virtual icon (trophy icon) is set at an 'average pace' to complete in record time. The icon does not stop for rests etc." So yep, he needs to average faster than Sab's average to catch up and overtake the trophy, but at the moment he seems to be just about keeping same distance behind, then when he stops will fall further behind. At last summit he was 30 mins behind Paul's time, and needs to finish over 6 hours ahead, so after 3.5 days, assuming constant effort, he should be about 3.5 hours up (assuming Paul didn't have any meltdown in last couple of days - can't recall any major problems) |

That's interesting. Maybe there is still a small window of opportuity for James. I don't think Paul had any major problems towards the end. However, I've always understood that he felt that once it was clear he was going to beat Steve's time he didn't push for the fastest time possible. In retrospect I understood he had regrets about this in terms of not setting the hardest target possible for subsequent attempts. So James going 7 hours faster than Paul did between now and the finish is maybe possible but I think that's a very small maybe.

Elapsed time in the tracker list of tops is way out again, showing 107 hours at Patterdale when it was actually 93:42 He's followed the route shown on his map, not sure why the list of tops was in a different order - possibly a copy from someone's previous attempt. Apart from that, bad news is James made little or no progress in catching Sabs' trophy icon overnight, and is now resting so falling further behind |

I think the tops order is Sabs. Looks like OT didn't adjust the list to match his route. Being realistic I think he is noow chasing the fastest male time rather than the overall record... |

Looking at the tracker I think it looks like he’s catching up the the average pace icon. His stops are obviously slowing him down. It will be interesting to see how close he can get to it by the end.

And my comment but a jinx on that as he’s now slowly dropping off Sabs average pace. Can anyone who’s studied the route a bit more carefully than me say how he’s doing in relation to Paul’s or Steves schedules? |

Dave, here's Paul's OT splits. Paul started at 8am, James at 9am, so quite easy to compare, but do so by day and time (ie column 1 on both tracker screens) don't use the overall time on James' screen as that column is wrong https://live.opentracking.co.uk/pault19/# At the last top, James is 16 mins slower than Paul ( James 17:06, Paul 15:50 ) - amazing they are so close over nearly 4.5 days !! In general Paul was moving quicker than James is, but James is taking shorter rests |
