Yeah, a Stolly BGR attempt was a good way of testing your kit . My first encounter with Stolly was supporting him on leg 3. I remember struggling into waterproofs on Esk Pike and him abandoning shortly after, we went down to Wasdale via Styhead and had a pint while we waited for the lovely Hester. Stolly fell asleep, face on the table in a puddle of beer.
Come to think of it, I was on his successful attempt too - leg 1. He went off way too hard, it was a right drama. Once he'd left onto leg 2 we had to go back up Blencathra rounding up lost supporters.
