Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

How about forums where you have to be "invited" to be able to post on? Everyone could ready but you need to be approved to add stuff. Probably not thought that through enough but it works in my own head :)

How about forums with an idiot-check on them too?

I think the problem is that there are some users who sometimes post drivel but sometimes make useful contributions. So I find it easier to avoid the drivel filled threads but still read what the same users have to say on the more serious ones rather than blocking the user entirely.

But that's just my approach and if other people would find it helpful then I don't object to them using it...

Works for me, Binks.

Also, is it possible (would it be possible) to highlight an entry within a thread.

For example, Gobi's post #46406 in the 20 miler thread started today is an absolute gem!!!!

To be fair, most of Gobi's posts about training are spot on!

A previous forum I was on had this and as I was sick to the back teeth of certain poster derailing threads and posting pages of crap, so I blocked him. Turns out it just made the threads impossible to decipher and that was more annoying than the guy :)

So I unblocked him and stopped and just never read his posts again.

At the moment I don't feel the need to ignore anyone. In the past however I was in the situation where if I posted on a certain thread another poster would invariably follow me with a comment that made me feel slightly grubby. If I had been able to ignore that poster it would have made the thread more pleasant reading as I didn't want to completely avoid it.
