I've found "it's just Sam" to be a good explanation for relatives who're not used to him.

BTW I forgot to mention in my ramble - but I absolutley refuse to wear a T Shirt / Sweat top that says *Proud Father of 1 (other numbers can be added) of an Autistic son (daughter) - they're you kids for christ sake.

Oh one other thing and this isn't a my needs are more worthy than yours - but I always think that children with Autisim seem to be treated, in a way that people wouldn't dare do with children who were deaf, blind, disabled.

Remember the deaf / blind schools? unheard of now (I think)

Plus, the discussion is ace...

I know its scarey Dave - but there is lots of information out there now, things seems to be done different in various parts of the UK and this can be frustrating.

but its better than it used to be - up till the early 80's kids were institutionalised - locked up. The internets good - if you stay away from all the gobbligook and stick to facts.

Jono: my cousin is really much more "classically" autistic - his mum and Dad managed to keep him at home. It must have been a struggle, though; aside from the pressure from outside (he must be about 32 now so this would have been through the 80s), just practically - James is a big, strong bloke...
