Excellent vid Mrs S, must bring it all flooding back :)

Sun's out here so I'm waiting til later to get a run done. Feet swelled up beautifully last night - like I'd run a 50 miler or something. Just goes to show how important the training for these things is. I've been properly slacking for the last few months, but without races to aim for I've been lacking motivation.

Like fenners I've never been above Tyndrum - something to remedy when things return to a more normal footing.

Thanks oumaumau, it gets even more stunning after Tyndrum, the mountains are amazing. Maybe when we're allowed to, we could all meet up for a thread run? Glencoe to the finish would be fantastic 😀. Once the café is open again for a breakfast before we start!

I have travelled above Tyndrum but never on foot. I have looked at the stunning majestic scenery but never had time to stop and wander.

Unfortunately have never done the 'Devil'. But must be the only person (*joke*) to have climbed Ben Nevis and had fabulous views......both times. Once at the end of May with eldest son and second at the beginning of September with middle son. In September it coincided with the day of the Ben Nevis race. That was a sight to see. Some of those fell runners are bonkers!

Oh, I've been above Tyndrum before but not on foot, or on the WHW :)

WHW race is still on my todo list - ideally I'd do the triple, but it seems shrinkingly unlikely to get all three races in one year these days. Good for the sport and race directors, bad for little old me ;)

13.7 today to finish leg 1. I think Cambridge paths and trails are ever so slightly easier going than the real thing.

Been to Tyndrum many times - all in the same day! Tyndrum24 in January. I’d been looking forward to seeing that stretch again on the Fling :-(

Not wrong Badger. I reckon we will be in competition for the least ascent.

Just got to end of leg 1 today and on 36.5m cumulative. Legs giving a wee grumble towards the end but grateful for a buddy in today’s run which helped a lot. Good running everyone. I’ve no experience of the real think but it looks great. Hope I can help out in some capacity in a later year.

Great work DQ, you got this.

About This Thread

Maintained by
Following the cancellation of the 2020 Altra West Highland Way Race, we have decided to organise a virtual West Highland Way Race instead. The virtual events start at midnight on Thursday 11 June and allows people to run or walk 95 miles over 9.5 days, either individually, as a semi competitive 3 person relay team, or as a multi person fun relay team.

All entrants need to follow government guidelines for the period of the virtual race. Like all virtual events it relies on honesty from everyone, just getting out there, logging some miles as accurately as possible, and having some fun too.

Unlike the traditional event we are actively discouraging anyone from covering the 95 miles in one go. Instead you can run segments of your choosing, reaching the 3 checkpoint cutoffs, and then uploading your details to an online platform run by SI Entries.

Checkpoints are at:

Inversnaid - Leg 1: 36 miles to be completed by midnight on Monday 15 June;

Victoria Bridge, by Loch Tulla - Leg 2: a further 27 miles to be completed by midnight on Thursday 18 June;

Fort William - Leg 3: a further 32 miles giving a total of 95 miles to be completed by midday on Sunday 21 June.

Each runner or team needs to decide on a strategy according to their own ambitions and available time. Run and enjoy long single stages or break it down in to smaller (and possibly faster) stages - your imagination is your only guide.

On the evening of Saturday 20 June from 7pm to 8.30pm there will also be a show hosted by John Kynaston and Ian Beattie on the race Facebook page. They will chat with previous race winners and characters from earlier West Highland Way Races, along with a quiz.

More details, including a link to the entry page on SI Entries, can be found on the race website westhighlandwayrace.org
