Well done everyone, I think I've left myself the most to do out of the people here, over 7 miles.

JRitchie, you could volunteer to be part of the sweeper team next year? That's what shanksi and I were supposed to be doing this year so hopefully we'll do it next year instead. Then I reckon shanksi will have another turn running the race if he gets in the ballot. It's getting harder and harder to get in though.

Lovely vid Mrs S - thanks for that and your encouragement - I absolutely agree about the need to play it loud ;)

'Front loading' was always my plan so I'm pleased to be where I am. I have every confidence you'll be grand too :)

A slightly sore 9 and a bit this evening. Took a while to get going, but I could almost feel my all-day legs coming back to me by the end. 40 miles (almost exactly) down, with 1400 m ascent, puts me at around the top of the descent towards Beinglas Farm, or:

As you can see, I've been photobombed by the kids interfering with my distance marker...

Having skipped along the lochside section, here's an appropriate picture from the Fling 2017:

A day off tomorrow, then maybe another long effort on Tuesday before getting back to work on Wednesday. Loving this :)

Leg 1 finished today, just as well as I appear to be doing a 30 mile bike ride tomorrow, so much for a rest day before starting leg 2

We had a Zoom chat for our team last night. That was fun. This has made us get together.

We've decided to alter our team goal a bit because we were somewhat overachieving (80 miles by Sunday afternoon, when we're supposed to have done 36 by Monday! We're just a relay team of 3 though remember, so nothing like you soloists).

So we've decided our total mileage between the intended runner, and the two crew, will be the 95 that the runner would have done PLUS the 25-40 (possibly x 2 for the extra support crew that might have run too) that the support crew end up running between Tyndrum and the finish!

More is good! :-) G

Love the photo oumaumau, are you in the kilt or the white hat?

Another 3.1 miles done with my son in the park, taking me to 31.46 miles, 4.54 miles at least to do with josieT this evening. Sorry for the decimal places guys, I'm keeping a spreadsheet. I'm not running a set length of run to fit with whw points, I'm running my usual routes and seeing where I am on the map if you see what I mean? I bumped in to a friend I hadn't seen in ages too so added another 10 minutes at least to my time by stopping to chat.

White hat Mrs S, guy in the kilt was great company along the loch side though - didn't notice the 'cockatool' on his number at the time, and struggle for his name now...

Assuming you're logging your miles to fetch you can get a running total on the train page by setting the date range to start 12/06 and selecting the totals tab. Just fyi

Thanks for the tip, when I go on the laptop later on I'll do that. I can never get the hang of changing things in the training log on my phone.

About This Thread

Maintained by
Following the cancellation of the 2020 Altra West Highland Way Race, we have decided to organise a virtual West Highland Way Race instead. The virtual events start at midnight on Thursday 11 June and allows people to run or walk 95 miles over 9.5 days, either individually, as a semi competitive 3 person relay team, or as a multi person fun relay team.

All entrants need to follow government guidelines for the period of the virtual race. Like all virtual events it relies on honesty from everyone, just getting out there, logging some miles as accurately as possible, and having some fun too.

Unlike the traditional event we are actively discouraging anyone from covering the 95 miles in one go. Instead you can run segments of your choosing, reaching the 3 checkpoint cutoffs, and then uploading your details to an online platform run by SI Entries.

Checkpoints are at:

Inversnaid - Leg 1: 36 miles to be completed by midnight on Monday 15 June;

Victoria Bridge, by Loch Tulla - Leg 2: a further 27 miles to be completed by midnight on Thursday 18 June;

Fort William - Leg 3: a further 32 miles giving a total of 95 miles to be completed by midday on Sunday 21 June.

Each runner or team needs to decide on a strategy according to their own ambitions and available time. Run and enjoy long single stages or break it down in to smaller (and possibly faster) stages - your imagination is your only guide.

On the evening of Saturday 20 June from 7pm to 8.30pm there will also be a show hosted by John Kynaston and Ian Beattie on the race Facebook page. They will chat with previous race winners and characters from earlier West Highland Way Races, along with a quiz.

More details, including a link to the entry page on SI Entries, can be found on the race website westhighlandwayrace.org
