Cheers G. Yes I'm on a solo run.

If I can make it to Victoria Bridge by Sunday night, that would dove tail with a 100 mile week, which is uncharted territory but something to aim at. I'll try for the 7.5 to close off the first leg tomorrow morning and take it from there.

That said I've been off work this week and have put 66 miles and about 13,000 feet on the legs since Monday, so there might be some protest when the alarm goes off in the morning!

Lol! Great effort Paul.

It's amazing and I can hardly comprehend now, as I struggle with 5-10 miles and 30 odd miles a week, that I did 95 in one go! :-) G

Loved reading all 40 posts here. And as for Mrs_shanksi's clothes choice - wow. In that I headed off before breakfast wearing the red 20212 whw buff, and the 2013 red t-shirt. What are the odds, especially when she has so many whw clothes to choose from?

Anyhoo, I got up before the alarm and headed round the block before breakfast - overdressed since it was blowing a hoolie out there, and finished later in a complete puddle of sweat. That's a full range of hills up here, so 14 miles and I've overshot Drymen already.

Proper long run tomorrow morning, but will drive (broadly five miles) to get some trail - maybe around loch ore and/or loch leven nearby.

Unexpected 21 miles - the green machine have taken over Hankly Common for fun and games, so I got pushed well out of my way, and ever so slightly lost...

By my reckoning that's just past Balmaha, so

HappyG - yes and I'm so chuffed that all three of our sons like to run, although the youngest only does parkrun so has been very lazy since March.

Paul N - past Rowardennan? Very impressive!

_andy - did you take a photo? I love that we wore the same clothes!

Well done all of you, you've all done more miles than me. I am taking it very steady over the time allotted. But today I've run the most miles in one day since the 1st of Feb so I'm happy :-). Another run done with Eldest son and Gina taking me to 10.76 miles. Not reached Drymen yet but will pass it tomorrow.

8 miles run and 4 walked, decent start but really hope the weather will improve a bit as today's miles were decidedly soggy

Run 9 and a bit so a steady start - will try and push on a bit over the weekend. I need to find a decent map of the route so I can keep track of where I'm up to.

About This Thread

Maintained by
Following the cancellation of the 2020 Altra West Highland Way Race, we have decided to organise a virtual West Highland Way Race instead. The virtual events start at midnight on Thursday 11 June and allows people to run or walk 95 miles over 9.5 days, either individually, as a semi competitive 3 person relay team, or as a multi person fun relay team.

All entrants need to follow government guidelines for the period of the virtual race. Like all virtual events it relies on honesty from everyone, just getting out there, logging some miles as accurately as possible, and having some fun too.

Unlike the traditional event we are actively discouraging anyone from covering the 95 miles in one go. Instead you can run segments of your choosing, reaching the 3 checkpoint cutoffs, and then uploading your details to an online platform run by SI Entries.

Checkpoints are at:

Inversnaid - Leg 1: 36 miles to be completed by midnight on Monday 15 June;

Victoria Bridge, by Loch Tulla - Leg 2: a further 27 miles to be completed by midnight on Thursday 18 June;

Fort William - Leg 3: a further 32 miles giving a total of 95 miles to be completed by midday on Sunday 21 June.

Each runner or team needs to decide on a strategy according to their own ambitions and available time. Run and enjoy long single stages or break it down in to smaller (and possibly faster) stages - your imagination is your only guide.

On the evening of Saturday 20 June from 7pm to 8.30pm there will also be a show hosted by John Kynaston and Ian Beattie on the race Facebook page. They will chat with previous race winners and characters from earlier West Highland Way Races, along with a quiz.

More details, including a link to the entry page on SI Entries, can be found on the race website westhighlandwayrace.org
