Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

remember 70s snow - '72 was quite bad, it was the year my uncle returned from RAF posting in Singapore and my cousins had never seen snow :) we made really long ice slides on the lane and got into trouble when the postman's van skidded into the hedge into the hedge :)

Fell in the lake Linds? hope you've warmed up! but do tell :)

I remember a few snows in the Far North in the late 1980s but they were rubbish. I think school only shut twice. Boo.

I had to come further north to get proper snow and school only shuts if it is a proper blizzard. It's the wind that keeps us off, not the snow.

There was definitely heavy snow in 1991, February I think. I caught chickenpox and was quarantined in university sick bay until the M1 was cleared enough for my dad to come and collect me.

Also remember some from early childhood, 1976 possibly.

But never seen it like it is at the moment. Hard packed on pavements and ungritted roads. No slush or ice. And the drifting on Thursday was something else.

Currently in the middle of a thaw so I'm expecting a wet and dirty run tomorrow morning :-(

And possibly a lot of cancelled races could have gone ahead, though I don't blame any organiser for making the call before people have travelled etc.

Linds :-o
Late 80s ?87 we were cut off by drifting just like this one. Heavy falls in 2000 and 2010 plus 2011. We get cut off pretty easily because we live somewhere no-one goes so we're bottom of the list for gritting and ploughing.

About This Thread

Welcome to the 700 miles in 2018 thread, everybody welcome :-)

The thread motto is:

'700 miles is neither necessary nor sufficient'

All you have to do is run about 1.91 miles per day or 13.46 miles per week or 58.33 miles per month and take a picture when you get to 700 miles of either you or the spot you reached the target or both if you want to. And if you go under or over 700 miles nobody will mind.

Join in the chat on the friendliest thread around - all things discussed and sometimes even some running is talked about.

Next year's spreadsheet can be found here - let's fill it up
