I have to say it is geeky but I do like a spreadsheet since I retired I don’t get many opportunities. Next job is to merge the last two years and see what that looks like.

I haven't had a McMullens AK since I first started going to pubs so at least *checks own age* 40 years. I recall I didn't like anything much that McMullens produced but that may have been a combination of being young, only just 'discovering' drinking and possibly because it actually was horrible. Next time I see it I will have to give it a try for old times sake. I do however like pretty much everything I've ever had from Crouch Vale.

McMullens is not my favourite in fact I actively avoid it if I can, but it is our town brewery and they do own a lot of local pubs. Every time I have have one of these it has been because Mrs HT has wanted to go to the Salisbury Arms which is a bit more upmarket than my favoured drinking establishments.

They keep the beer well and the AK wasn’t unpleasant just very dull.

On the plus side the Blackwater was a real treat. Lovely beer

Isn't that funny? Robinson's is my local big brewer and I avoid it all the time, but if you go to one of their pubs, it will be well kept and a fair enough pint. They are trying to pep up their beer portfolio with some snazzy stuff that hasn't quite worked yet, but they're trying.

Yes Macs went as far as creating a new brand to showcase their new brews “Rivertown Brewery”. I do like these when served as cask but mostly they’re served from kegs and a bit fizzy.

Holts and Hydes of Manchester have done a similar thing, where they punt out a few modern styles, Hydes have produced a few that I like. One of my beer drinking mates is coming to Manchester in the new year and I have earmarked a couple of Hydes pubs because of that.

Not a bad Year at all! Overall I drank darker beers, and I think more of everything than last year, YAY! GO ME!

Beers of the year were Blackedge IPA, and Titanic Captain Smith. Plus lots of thers getting very high ratings, so looks good. Two beer festivals too. Somehow I managed nigh on 60 new pubs and bars in 2023! I need to verify!

One quibble, getting very tired of big breweries re-labelling beers as IPA, bitter etc, when ther are NOT! I am looking at you Proper Job and the like. Considering Prode, and Fullers was always my go to beer back in the ay when I Lived in West London, they don't half produce some shite now, Pride is not eh beer it was, and Seafarers was piss water. Asahi has scrwed it, but they were always going to, I remeber when they bought the brewery, they kept emntioning the 'estate', not the beer.

Shame.

Roll on the rest of 2024, been good so far!

I am beside myself with joy, after checking I managed to visit 75 new bars and pubs in 2023...I am nt beating that this year. I think it's thanks to 3 big hiking holidays, the Dolomites, Switzerland and Yorkshire, plus 2 mini weekends......75, Seventy Five :-)

About This Thread

and here we are in 2024....

I still really like a pint.

I think this is not too controversial health wise. Lots of beers about these days. I interpret it as different beers within 2023, and you can, if you like; avoid beers you have had before, but as ever the list is yours to do what you like.
