From the Spectator review of the latest John Cale album:

“Mercy is his first record of new material in more than a decade. It’s thrillingly claustrophobic, like being locked in some grand Gothic cathedral with a mad organist as the sound rolls up and around the walls, or subjected to a prolonged immersion with your own ghost in an isolation tank.”

^[Listening ^ so far, not eliciting a quilted paean of praise to match The Spec but slowly, surely grabbing my attention.]

Not sure where else to put this. The Donna Summer vocal on the magnificently daft State of Independence seems to be sung with an English accent. Not sure I’d noticed before. She had damn good voice.

State of life, may I live, may I love
Coming out the sky, I name me a name
Coming out silver word for what it is
It is very nature of the sound, the game

The Terminator
Arctic Monkeys were sublime at Glasto last night in my opinion. Makes me laugh that so many people still want them to act like, sing about and write songs like spotty 16 year old in Sheffield.

She would make a great Sunday “legend” spot at Glastonbury, as would Annie Lennox (imo)
