Notes & Comments

Llanelli Waterside Half Marathon 2012, identical route to last year. Lashed with rain on the drive down with Gerry and Martin, which didn't bode well for the race. Luckily, the rain eased off just before the start, but conditions were cold with a blustery westerly wind, which meant an undershirt and gloves necessary. Went off steady and soon settled into pace just above 6.30 mins per miles, with John O'Shea (Les Croups) in good company for almost entire race. Went through 10 miles in 65.05, better than my pb for the distance, but then the turn back in the last 3 miles just revealed how strong the wind was, instantly knocking up to 30 secs off pace. Still managed to hold it together and in a sprint finish crossed in my second best Half Marathon time, better than anticipated. Though the wind added about a minute to my time in the final stretch, a pb was not on today. Enjoyed the friendly rivalry with JO'S who deservedly pipped me on the line. Like to think I paced him to his time, though doubtless he will say otherwise!
