Hatfield Broad Oak and still the sub 40 eludes me..... by a long way today and was never gonna get near it on that course! Went out gently by my usual first mile standards, different tactic....but felt pretty rubbish straight away.... I really felt the hills and quads were burning by 2k which is not ideal with another 8 to go! knew I was going to be no where near 40 after the 6:50 and kinda gave up with nothing to fight for, no place, no rival in sight and certainly no PB. Feel bit miffed but I'll be OK. Recon I need to lose a bit of weight though, feel a bit heavy when running 5/10k's. Oh official time 41:38 I believe, big wow!

Caz - no way you need to lose weight! Only thing that would have perhaps made a difference is not running so long just a few days before - those miles would have still been in my legs (if it had been me). It's still a respectable time on what didn't sound like a fast course. You will do sub-40, so don't give up! You have the talent - just need to take it easier in terms of training volume in the few days prior to the race. Well done for today

Bad luck Cazzy, I am sure you are capable of going sub 40, but the course and conditions were against it today.

Thanks folks. You might be right M, I've never had such fatigue in my legs so early, and ran yesterday to coz I'd already had two unscheduled days off last week due to doing stuff on the house. But perhaps just a bad day. I won't give up, but might put it to one side for now and do some other distance races, back to 10m and halfs I think, my favourite.
