Last night decided to weigh the orthotics that I trudge around with me on my all runs, races, even walking. A wapping 88 grams (each)! Half the weight of my racing flats. Could I get away with not wearing them in a race and save myself 9-10s?
Trial this morning went astoundingly well.
Until the last kilometre, wasn't 100 per cent sure of a PB, but did 3:01 pace for the last km and my Garmin underestimated the distance. The last mile might have been sub-five-minutes, which would beat anything I've ever done in a flat-out 1500m.
Almost equates to my 10km PB, but I reckon I'd break on a decent course. Trouble is, not sure how long I can race without my orthotics.
Now tempted to try to find the perfect 10km or half-marathon course before London - or maybe I should just be patient and wait until the summer.
Well done to John and Mickey, who ensured WJ had the fastest three runners in the Harrier League this season.

Paul i may be a donkey but could you explain to me why after recovering from an injury, running so well with London so near you can even think about a 10k or half marthon in racing flats, i think its whats known as pushing your luck. Glad to hear you had a "good" run for a change LOL

Wearing flats for London too. Have worn them on a three-hour run and in a 20-mile race without probs. Would be five minutes slower in my heavy clogs that I use for training.
I'm probably disadvantaged in that I've become used to wearing such a heavy pair for training, which are way too heavy for racing in.

Ok that's me told!! I still think so close to London your "heavy clogs" would be better that racers for training at least they provide the support and then you will feel the benefit of the lighter shoes on the day. Thanks i now no i run slow due to wearing heavy clogs LOL 16 sleeps to go!!!!!!!

Don't even think about another race before VLM now, its to near, not planned and if you don't it will leave you hungry for the 25th. Then hit it post 25th - Langtoft and Deeping are both flat fast 10ks and Eye is CRL
