Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

FlyingKiwi Yippee! Finally I have cracked the 1:45 barrier! I did it by going out a bit slower than normal, and running at a good, consistant pace :) :) :) :)

Pupas Had decided, the previous day, not to race it and use the entry as a training run, part because I had some wine, part because I wasn't sure how hip was going to behave, and part because I had had some tummy problems (again!) and very little sleep the previous week. So I thought, no point to get stressed about it.

Run without my bottle water (good) and managed to go round by using the water stations and sponges provided. Didn't suffer from migraines/dehydration that afternoon/evening. The weather was a wee bit warmer, but the rain was soothing.

Very steady pace: 1st couple of miles around 5.30ish min/km; up to mile 10, 5.20ish min/km.

I was feeling strong and great, so I thought to push for the last 3 miles and run around 5 min/km the rest of the 1/2. Great no problems!

Of course (!?) I was disappointed that I hadn't pushed a bit earlier, steadily but a bit faster earlier; it could have been another pb. Could have, but you never know.

Decided to run for a bit longer as warm down (3 more miles), and including warm up that makes a total of 17 miles!! (PB in distance). Feeling very stiff today, 2 days after.

During the race a had a couple of niggles. At around mile 4 my right knee felt like starting to seize, very gentle. I thought to myself, this is the GER, in another mile it'll go and them half way the hip willl start. THAT didn't happen. Somewhere after the half point, I started having some niggles in my left arch. When it was most uncomfortable, I'd crinch the foot, and that felt like easing off something. Foot OK after stopping.

Lesson learnt: I need to prepare my races, to have a strategy; not leaving it to the chance and then be disappointed with myself. It's not only the physical and mental training.

Lesson learnt: I am confident I can do the whole marathon, and if everything goes as it's at the moment, I believe I could do it just under 4 hours: 5.20-5.30 min/km was a very comfortable pace; I certainly felt on Sunday I could run for longer (although don't know how much longer :) )
