Ginger Chicken Conditions a little gritty and scary at occasions, but definitely much nicer than the Saturday.

Decided I would give the Olympic a real go this year as I said in my original notes I wasn't sure if I would be committed enough. The clincher was a relatively poor half marathon performance in April which kickstarted me to train hard for another half marathon in May. When I'd got a good time in that I just kept the conviction going and decided to try and balance a relatively time consuming and energy sapping training schedule with work and playing in a band (and having a life).

I really put a lot of time in on the bike since May and it really paid off. I thought the course was supposed to be pretty flat but in fact it was extremely undulating on the Tower Bridge route. Even though I didn't really feel very comfortable on the bike I was pleased with what I achieved.

Not sure London is the most pleasant triathlon in all ways. I'd liken it to a big stadium gig where the central act is clearly amazing and worth it, but there are still lots of stressful crowd related moments and long distances to walk while you're trying to sort things out and keep nipping to the loo. Good facilities though although we went to the Sushi Ya restaurant for lunch which wasn't great as we were the only people in there so they had to get all the food out and prepare it from scratch. Nice, but not quite the right venue at that time.

I'm exhausted now though - day off work tomorrow. Wicked.

Ginger N My first Olympic distance which I mostly enjoyed. The swim was always going to be tough, but pleased with 35 mins. The bike started well, but near the end of the 2nd lap started to get stomach pains. Finished the bike in 1:10, but was completely crippled on the 1st lap of the run due to my stomach. Had to nip into a restaurant to use the lav, so after a few walking moments eventually was able to amble along to finish the run in 45mins.. so 2.35. Dissapointed as I really wanted to do sub 2.30 which I would have easily done if not for the cramps. But hey ho at least I survived to fight another day.

Mazza aka Fitso Surprise result, especially considering conditions were tough. Had a disappointing swim, couldn't get any clear water or get a rhythm going and the return leg was really hard against a the wind. Felt exhausted and very sick by the time I got out of the water. Wind on the bike was brutal in parts but didn't get overtaken by anyone and managed to use the underpasses to make up time and finished with a bike split of 1.08 which I was really pleased with. Run was draining - the first & last kms were the longest I've ever run - went on for ever, especially the final hill up to get back inside the hall to finish. Great feeling to finish in a near 2.30 time - feeling it today though.
