Ally2 Looking forward to my first mile. The speed work paid off went off hard with Boycie breathing down my neck and always felt he was within striking distance but felt fine with lap to go so put in a sprint at end to ensure a sub 5. Cold and tough but fun meeting all fellow Fetchies. Some cracking times from club runners Boycie (by 1 sec after biggest warm up known to man), Raging Bull (ate hubby Racin' Snail alive) and Firestarter (flash git in his fluorescent spikes) all ran PBS or club records.

Boycie Well made it! A new shiny PB by all of 1s... Race was tough, weather was cold and wind was biting, particularly in the back straight. Ally2 headed off like a loony and got about 10 metres ahead of me by 200m. I managed to hold him at that distance pretty much to the final straight, when he really kicked for home and put a few extra metres on me!

Chrisity Can i make this very clear - i didn't want to run this. Hamstrings, calves and achilles have all been twanging since september (can't remember which year though) and the most stupid thing i could do was run a mile. I don't do take it easy, a race is a race is a race. However Barky had booked the track and there weren't too many takers to start with so i couldn't say no. I was sure that some excuse would come up.
First ploy was to ask my wife and kids to take part too, assuming that i would get a refusal and then playing the martyr card and not go at the last minute. They said they would like to join in. Ba*tards! (note: this is factually incorrect).
My first glimmer of hope came quite unexpectedly. On the Tuesday before the race my mum phoned me. An old friend had come round to show her photographs from his recent walk on the Cleveland Way. Unfortunately and sadly he felt a little feint and had dropped dead in her flat. I immediately made plans to go to visit her in Manchester but she said that she was OK and would still come down to see me as arranged on the Thursday to see my daughter

Firestarter What a great day.......and not just because of my new PB!! But because Mr Barky has organised a fabulous event for the East Mids Fetch Mile. Not even the bitterly cold weathere could dampen the spirits of the fetchies who turned up at the Moorways track. Three excellent races One for the quick and eager youngsters who arrived with the fetchies, and two more for the different speed groups - brilliant.
Meeting new faces, forming new friendships and enjoying the simplicity of racing, .we even had the pleasure of

Racin Snail First off big respect to Barky for the organisation and to everyone else for turning out in sub zero temp. Great day all round i think.
Now to me...
Having only run 4 times in 6 weeks i wasn't really expecting great things of this and didn't disappoint in that respect. This was the first time i had run on a track and the first timed mile so was going into it blind too.Did a warm up lap with Ally2 aiming for 80 sec as this would give me a respectable 5.20,but this felt much harder than i expected. Stripped down to the bare essentials and set off anyway, managed the first lap in 82 then eased back on the next 2,terrified of looking a complete fool staggering round the last lap!! Can't remember the other splits but managed a feeble sprint up the home straight to come in behind Ally2 and Boycie(think they'd showered and changed by then) the Ragin Bull(not again!!) and Firestarter. Oh dear, i initially thought, but on reflection i suppose, with the lack of any REAL training it wasn't a bad effort and at least i should have a guaranteed P.B next time out!
Roll on the summertime....

sLickster Would be first timed 1 mile...

EDIT: It turned out well, mainly due to me following the pace of others, rather than 'running alone'!!

Thanks to all involved.

Spaceman My first timed mile and first run on a track. All went well, had plenty in the tank which was a bit suprising given the six mile warm up I ran!

ThorntonRunner Great event, but gutted at my time. Was using Garmin to set my pace. It showed an even 5:35 all the way so I thought I'd got my PB, but it measured the course at 1.04 - so it was saying I was running faster than I actually was. Sorry to all those who bet on me.
