Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Ands Hot humid hell! Race terminated 3.5hrs in due to 93deg heat and humidity. Anyone not at half-way was redirected to start, others directed to shortcuts,or, (like me and my sister) told to walk by the police. Walked last 7-8miles, although even at our running pace our revised prediction was for 5hrs in this temp. Neither of us were sweating by 23miles, my sister's skin was drier than mine and she was very slightly confused with abdo cramps. I know I couldnt have maintained running, so although disappointing, we did finish alive and well, and I think the decision to call off the race saved lives. The organisers had increased drinks, but volunteers struggled to keep up with the demand and water stations were difficult, sometimes blindly only getting a mouthful in your cup. Placed every 2miles would normally have been perfect, but it just seemed too far inbtw on the day by mile 16ish. At the end, there was very little left, one station appearing to have none. I can't train for conditions like this - I'd just choose another time/day to run if it was too hot. I don't think you could have finished it at all (even walking) without training. Eyes felt sunburnt too. 10,000 didn't start it, 11,000 DNF, and lots more got a 'finish' time despite missing our chunks on shortcuts (easy to see from results). Credit to anyone finishing sub 5!
