Agree with PH and T about Ashtanga - it's too much of a workout when I'm running, I stick with Iyengar most of the time.

I find yoga very beneficial for my running too. I like the way it makes you more aware of your body - does that sound odd? I do Iyengar yoga and our class does very little breathing or relaxation which suits me grand. In my head Ashtanger is fairly similar to Iyengar but faster and more aerobic - is that right.
Oooo hometime for me. Just when I'd plucked up the courage to start posting. Bye.

So what is good for runners then yoga-wise? I tend to stick to a few sun salutations and not much else to be honest. I like sun salutations because of the calf and hamstring stretching involved.
Open to other reccommendations though... espeically DVDs as i like to do yoga at home to balance with martial arts (set time, set place) and running (outside, cold and wet at this time of year).
I've got (don't laugh!) the Geri body yoga DVD which is led by Katy Appleton and i like that a lot - i especially like that there's no annoying whalesong and that it's filmed outdoors in a beautiful location.
Any other reccommendations?

One of my teachers says that a full yoga pratice should contain 1.a balance 2a twist 3 a back bend 4.a twist 5 an inversion so sun salutations do it all apart from a twist

Never heard any more about this, but I remember Michele Ferrari (bloke who worked with Lance Armstrong) saying he thought that more work could be done on incorporating yoga breathing techniques for endurance athletes; would be interested to hear if these ideas had been taken any further
(though obviously his reputation's a bit dodgy these days, but I believe he was on the right track there at least)
