I got my NY GFA confirmed too. I enjoyed it so much last year and there’s a few things I didn’t get round to seeing, can’t wait.

Did anyone get a ballot place for NYC? I didn’t unfortunately. Does anyone have the rough odds of getting a ballot place?

NYRR reckon 128,000 entries, and a 5% acceptance rate.
Which makes about 6,000 ballot places for a 50,000 runner race.

There are about 12,000 charity places. Not sure how many 9+1 and other guaranteed entries there are, but it looks like the majority of people have got in because they've qualified for it.

Thanks. I just saw this from 2020 as well, so it’s not great odds.
“After completing the Drawings for the 2020 TCS New York City Marathon, 4,262 runners were added to the field from a total of 185,332 applications. Approximately 2.3% of NYC-Metro Area Drawing applicants were selected (1,094 runners); approximately 2.3% of National Drawing applicants were selected (1,891 runners); and approximately 2.3% of International Drawing applicants were selected (1,277 runners). Thus, the pool of runners accepted through the Drawings was made up of 25.7% NYC-Metro, 44.4% national, and 30% international applicants”.

Yes, apparently they split the lottery entrants into three pools, NYC Metro, rest of USA, rest of world, and draw proportionately from each pool, so no one category of entrant gets more or less chance than others.
Of course, NYC Metro runners who really want to do NYC only have to enter 9 NYRR races and volunteer at one, which seems a small price to pay for an experience like that.
I'd love for something similar to happen for London. I'd happily make the journey down there 9 times a year. I'm sure I must have gone one year to a combination of Milton Keynes and Kent that many times for nothing more than working towards the ownership of a t-shirt.
