I’ll give that a go. I’ve got an old rucksack I could wear on my front (I don’t have a sling).
I guess the injection and the worming (plus the whole new experience of going to the vets and in the car) may well have had an effect. He’s just done a massive poo. It has been a very testing day.
Tomorrow is another day.

With regards to regaining recall. I have just had an ACME 211.5 dog whistle arrive (always think of roadrunner for ACME!). For the next week I am going to give it a toot everytime I feed her, treat her or get her tug toy out. Then I will try it outside I will keep you informed!

Good luck StA, we did that with Boots. I think mild indifference sums up his response.

LOL. At the minute she seems more interested in the whistle than the treat - she will normally take any treat but she just comes and stares at the whistle!

I used a whistle for Wanda at one point. A return on the whistle got the best ever treat - liver cake or something similar. However I only ever used it on our local playing field. I suspect the contest of Whistle + Liver Cake vs Pheasant or squirrel would have a clear winner by a mile and it wouldn't be the whistle!

Maybe I should keep a squirrel in my back pocket instead of a tug toy! Good idea!

In the past we did whistle recall training with Boots in the garden. He quickly worked out both of us in the garden with whistles meant sausage! He would run between us hoovering up sausage, sometimes realising whistle = sausage. I’d also blow the whistle when out on walks and give him sausage do he’d associate the two together out-and-about. And we were blowing the whistle when he was fed.
Take him out tho & he became oblivious to the whistle as a recall tool. I was really surprised therefore when he responded so well to the squeaker. Still we don’t let him off lead at all now, or very rarely. Hopefully one day 🤞🏻

My whippet was similar. I am not sure they are bred to respond to a whistle, or maybe they are just ignorant I am hoping her genetics (gundog) have a better response to it, otherwise back to square one!

Yep. I’m always delighted & surprised when Boots displays recall. I’ve learnt not to expect it tho, lurchers simply don’t seem to agree with having this degree of control levied over them.
