Interesting that they couldn't stay with the lead group in the first place though.
Sky not as invincible as we thought.

I gues they must've gone into the red yesterday and couldn't recover, Froome did well though

Froome excelled: a solo effort against stern opposition over, what, 4 Cat 1 climbs? My rider of the day :)

He certainly earned that yellow jersey today.

Kennaugh dumped into a gutter, and almost down a mountainside by Hesjedahl overtaking and not giving enough room, otherwise he might have been able to stay closer.

Ah, the highlights might be interesting. It will also be interesting to see what Froome can do without a 'train'. I have never been convinced that the mountain train does anything other than slowly reeling in breaks (which would probably happen anyway) and stopping J-Rod (or any other sprinting climber) from leaping off the front.
On the performance so far, Froome could do it solo, but Contador will get stronger.

Great stage. One of the best I've seen in the last few years. Porte had a bad patch but looked amazing climbing back up through the blown riders, even though he didn't make it back to the main contenders. He was doing fine until he blew past a pair of movistar riders at which point I suspect they were fast on the radio and the main group put their foot down to stop his progress.

One of the more interesting thing for me was Schleck looking fairly comfortable, good to see.

Oh yes forgot to mention, is it just me or does Porte look like he is smiling when he is working hard? Perhaps he just chuckles to himself as he doles out the pain!

My thoughts on the train are that it helps keep the tempo high, which imo benefits whoever is strongest. In the case of a strong rider with a weak team, they may not be able to get the pace high enough to press their advantage.

It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if it was a mountain top finish.
