The FIREverse has a few characters who discover they don't like being retired and go back to work with their tails between their legs (and a lot of outright impostors like The Frugalwoods and Mr Money Mustache), but I think they're generally people in their thirties and early forties rather than "our" age. And I have several colleagues who have taken their pensions and won't retire, but I think that's more a case of the job being a huge part of their (our!) identity.

I could be retired by the end of today. It's all happened within a few days. I've told management at my current workplace that unless a change they imposed on my workload a few weeks ago is reversed in full I won't be going back after this weekend. They appeared to think I was bluffing and would respond positively to being fobbed off with an offer to look at ways of maybe filing a few of the rough bits off the grindstone they've shoved under my nose when it's convenient for them to do so. They clearly haven't bothered to get to know their workforce.
They'd be stupid to let me go, because I'm a scarce resource nowadays, but they've been stupid enough to let better people than me go. I find myself hoping that they dig their heels in.

As someone who's always been a saver, I've found it a bit of a challenge to switch into the mental model of spending down savings for the rest of my life.
I've taken a long time to get my head round that aspect too. A lifetime of being fairly cautious with money and ensuring that there was always enough to survive an unexpected change of circumstances had conditioned me into always looking to increase my savings. Even now after five years though I have adjusted to spending my SIPP I look on that as my 'income' and there are other areas of my savings that I'm reluctant to contemplate spending. Ultimately I don't think it will be until I start getting my DB pension that I will feel comfortable going near such funds.

They’d be bloody fools, V’rap. I hope for the residents of your part of Cumbria that they are sense.
