I retired on August 2nd last year, and have decided to go back to my old workplace and so some relief shifts. I need a bit more structure (and money!) for now. Not sure how long I’ll keep working, but a few months anyway.

My dad returned to work three times and only fully retired at 71 iirc He ultimately had retrained in his 50s and had a job that he enjoyed and the skills were in demand. He never sought work, but work found him. Latterly his three days a week meany he and my mum could live a life of holidays as well as his working. Although I feel ready at 57 and find so many frustrations in my role, I find I am now really uncertain. It is such a big and seemingly final decision. I have lots of thinking to do and also need to speak to my DC provider to,fully understand my options. We had a consultation call on the proposed pension changes which don’t impact me, but it was an eye opener. So many people in Jobs where they should know better asking some ,pretty basic questions There is a second one next week and we were supposed to join one or the other but I think I will also join the second to see how that goes. |

My dad was a miner, the conditions were getting better of him when they closed the pit he was made redundant at around 51-52. He worked at a tyre fitting company for the odd shifts for a couple of years. My mam just reduced hours and jobs as she got older finally packing in mid March 2020 at 74!! A week before lockdown and she’d have been furloughed had she waited til the end of the month not pay day! My FiL was RAF and came out at 55, MiL worked part time at Argos and stayed a bit longer, like my mam enjoyed the social aspect of working. We are actually in sync with parents. Mr gg is going to contract 2 days per weeks for couple of months to get him on the agency books and to help work with a big contract that came in. Had a celebratory meal in tonight for Mr gg’s retirement as last weekend we had people round. He loved the bottle bag! Trying to convince myself I can do 14 more months and not believing myself. |

Yes, I’m a failed retiree, but in my defence, I might only work a couple of days a month.

Nothing wrong with that if it’s helping you both financially and with structure ![]() |

@Bazoaxe take your time. If you're not sure then take your time for sure. If you have options to reduce hours that is also worth looking at.
