Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Really @minardi Carlos Sainz from Ferrari to Williams? That's quite a fall, unless Williams are really hoping to get back to their previous heights? I suppose his career is on the wane too? :-) G

Well it's not by choice he's leaving Ferrari so he has to go for the best available.

Williams are due to partner with Audi when they join so perhaps a good long term prospect.

I saw something (unconfirmed) that he had a couple of get out clauses re Mercedes & Red Bull but it's obviously unsubstantiated

That clause would make sense as Sainz is clearly better than Williams current position.

Doing some reading and the Williams stability and Merc engine are apparently part of the reasoning (Sauber is Audi's partner not Williams). Also found out that Alpine are going to go with Mercedes for 2026 instead of making their own (Renault) engine!

Ah my bad, this was the sentence on BBC that caused my confusion: “ Sainz has picked Williams over other opportunities at Alpine and Sauber, which will become Audi's factory effort in 2026.”

Thread for those who like their racing long, predictable but strangely addictive. And generally fossil fuelled.

Spoiler best practice
No quali spoilers until after (or during?) the Ch4 highlights show
No race spoilers until after (or during?) the Ch4 highlights show

Spoiler tags can be used - we're all grown ups so no need to click a Spoiler tag if we don't need to. But just make sure you type it correctly!!

So it needs to be (without the spaces, and all lowercase)
