Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Bit of a hold up at the bridge today ...

But I got my camera monopod, extended it lile a switch, and waved it around a bit telling the cows to move on. The 2 on the bridge did, so we could cross.

But then they seemed to build their own confrontation. I left them to sort themselves out.

There are usually cows on one of my local routes and they've recently had a variety of bulls in with them, which seem to like standing or lying down resolutely in the middle of the path. Also calves. Never a bother though someone did get killed not far from here a few months ago (sounds like they had a dog with them). Closest I've had to trouble was a few years ago when a herd of heifers got frisky and started chasing me but they stopped pretty quickly when I turned and faced them down!

It's such a popular route (and a lot of people take dogs) that I think it's vanishingly unlikely that I'll be the first victim.

I forgot about this thread until I read the posts last night. Have just read a report in a local website that is a warning.

edinburghlive.co.uk

I don’t know exactly where this happened but I did encounter three cows on a path in that rough area a couple of years back.

I stopped and tried to work out what I should do as I was going uphill so getting to a safe place would be tricky. In the end I went for it carefully and they were not remotely interested although they did watch me as I passed. The unfortunate thing was they were between the path and the wall which would have been my escape route.

Saw this vid earlier in the year on cows; made sense to me, and made by a farmer.

My first thought on reading Bazo's post was "coos in Western Hailes, eh". Reading the article ... "brutally attacked by a cow" - pfft. Maw coo and the bairns, he frightened the calves away, and then was surprised the mother took umbrage?

"President of Carnethy Hill Running Club" would have thought he'd actually know better. He's does now, I suppose. cow

The cows on my routes dont seem to care in the slightest. Even if you give them a good poke to encourage them to get off the path. YMMV
