Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

That is quality chair-spotting. I had to look again to even see the lonely chair in number 3.

Phew, thank goodness the EU never got wind of those ladder regulations, can you imagine the negotiations to suit 27 countries' building requirements :-)

(Those chairs are mostly quite lo-tech considering they're at a lab where they're trying to make a space laser that can rip a hole in the Universe.)

The regs don't seem to say say why they want access. Fire escapes? Snow clearance? Both? Something else - it isn't about the refs in the same way that cars don't just have brakes to pass the MOT.

I think it is to make it easier for burglars and prevent law suits should they fall when trying to access an open window.

A French bench, with obligatory bike. The stripy jumper wearing onion seller had gone for lunch ;-)

Homecoming benches.
No. 1 - the bench at our local Tesco. There are lots of sculptures by the same artist along the TransPennine Trail

No. 2 - the work in progress bench. Mr W liberated this from neighbours who were throwing it out three years ago. He's going to do it up so I can sit in the sun. It had half a slat more then.....
