Of course, Phineas has gone now, what with the Boer War and everything. Shame, I had many great nights drinking with Phineas. thetab.com |

Reggie, The King's College mascot, found himself stolen, emasculated and lost almost without trace over the years. However, he didn't give rise to any signficant controversy, as far as I am aware. Future of Phineas Maclino unclear: uclpimedia.com What was the outcome of the consultation? |

Looks like the latest cockup on the stats may explain some of the "long tail" in the English fatality figures.

It's a small issue, probably less than 20 extra deaths per day too many in the count. Doesn't materially affect any analysis of the epidemic so far (uncounted excess deaths are a far greater error) but could prove a bit embarrassing in the future as/when true covid-caused deaths drop to lower levels. Funny that it came up today, I found out about it two weeks ago and quickly worked out it was a small deal at that time - because the expected death rate of all the positive cases, assuming no harm from illness, would be perhaps 20 people per day. Now confirmed by PHE analysis, incidentally. 90% of the covid deaths have been within 28d of diagnosis and half of the remaining 10% have had covid listed as main cause of death, so that only leaves about 2k that might have been incorrectly attributed, and covid will have materially contributed to a bunch of them even if not listed as main cause. So just a relatively small number that shouldn't have been counted. |

We shouldn't really be surprised at Johnson's poor grasp of detail. He can't even remember to slip a nodder on when he's shagging his latest mistress.
