Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

And I’m laughing even when there’s nothing else you still won’t read Jane Austen

There was something nasty about Girl with the Edinburgh Tattoo* - it's the kind of book I might be expected to like but I very much didn't.

*thanks McG - one of your better ones.

I think if we did a straw poll of 'people like us' there'd be a fair few who

(a) loved Secret History to an unreasonable degree

(b) bought Goldfinch in a flurry of breathless excitement

(c) didn't read it

I'd go for the Sarah Waters. I've enjoyed most of her others and mean to read that one.
Think I quite liked Restoration - but my feelings are lost in the mists of time.
Goldfinch and The Power still barely started.

And I find all Sarah Waters easy reads although not much has been as good as tipping the velvet. I’ve read the Maggie Gee too but I’ve gone off her I thought it a bit of a stretch. I enjoyed light years so that might be me. You’ve basically got my bookshelf there Linds

Oooh - I loved Sophie's World. I seem to recall getting flak from the Highbrowtariat (or Glenn at any rate) for this.
