You could always switch to the wrist based HR system. This doesn't work either - but at least it does not force you into clothing decisions, battery change problems, cleaning requirements or excessive licking. Plus you get some bright LED lights to look at in the dark.

I managed a whole 100m in the pool this evening, not so much slobber as a droplet of drool. Goggles broke, tried to do the session anyway but couldn't.
