Personally, I'd stick with the orthotics. Injury is worse than missing a few seconds off a sub 2:57 No experimentation!!

lol... I wasn't meaning for this weekend. ditching the orthotics would be something to be tested out. When I first transitioned to them I was to wear them small amounts and build up. But one day when running without them I had to stop and walk home it was so sore. As soon as I put the orthotics in, the foot pain went and has never re-appeared. I clearly don't want that to happen again. |

If you need them you need them.

Baz i'd guess that if you ditched your orthotics you'd end up with the same issue i have. which is a specific wear pattern in your shoes.

I get that anyway SKR. I did note a bit of wear on my VFs last night on the outside of the heel which I don't normally see in other shoes. I might need to line up the VF/ZF and Asics to compare

Baz - I usually run in shoes with more structure than the ZF / VF and in some cases I wear an orthotic. When it comes to racing though I just wear the VF without the orthotic. My potentially gung ho approach is that I don't race that often and that I can tolerate a small % of my running without. IMHexperience, putting an orthotic in the Nikes make them a far less fulfilling experience. |

I think you'd need to find someone that would help you work on whatever issues mean you need orthotics (assuming they can be worked on). I'd expect you'd need to build up whatever route you took though given the orthotic has been meaning your arch muscles haven't had to work as hard. |

I wish I had never got orthotics if I am honest but at the time I was desperate for any solution. I think it would take some weaning off them. Might try it post marathon recovery and see how it goes.

I'd just like to say that no matter how inane some of my questions are about the VFs, I don't come close to this exchange on LetsRun letsrun.com basque wrote: the line should be the % of the energy return. I have read somewhere that in Vaporfly next it goes up to 87%, and in Alphafly is even higher, it may go 100% or even more! exrunner wrote: Joke right? basque wrote: You've never been on a trampoline, have you? |

Clarification from Hall! Looks like he upset a few people with the first comment! |
