I don't understand why Pix's has to be so difficult. No property involved, so add up various accounts, deduct tax free sum, deduct debts, deduct cost, pay 40%, divvy up, surely?

I will be one of those 4% - no spouse, partner or descendents, and the value of my house itself exceeds the current IHT threshold.

It is up to them to work out to whom I leave it, my sister or her children skipping her. She finds it hard to understand UK law applies to me and my estate... And as there is a double taxation agreement between the UK and the NL, that should be it. To be honest, I cannot currently drum up the energy to also look into the Dutch side of things! It is bad enough being pushed to "do something about it" from the UK side... I am not dead yet! I know this needs addressing at some point, but not right now 😱 And I don't begrudge the UK their reasonable sum of tax to be honest... Been here longer than in the Netherlands! And why should I worry about the recipients of my estate having to pay tax??? Seriously!!! They should be glad they get anything at all... I am intent on retiring swiftly after my treatment is over... And spend whatever spare cash I can lay my hands on too... Sadly, it is 95% my property that is worth so much, which doesn't help 😎

H it would be useful if you could get it written down as a will apparently speeds up the process.

Totri, I have, in the UK, but my sister thinks I should organise it so it is convenient for her... And thus Dutch/UK law expert charges a small fortune, which I cannot afford as on benefits and should not have to. I have a will. I leave everything 50/50 to niece and nephew and SIPP to my sister. Simples!
There is a note with my late ex MILs antique diamond watch that it needs to go to my exes niece. That is all... Oh and the sum if £3500 to a friend who will have my cat if I died before her, towards future health care as she ages.

I've done probate for my father-in-law, my Dad (not really necessary as everything was in joint names and went to my mum), and for my mum. It was all straightforward as I was the sole beneficiary and there were no assets other than the house, and no debts. We also benefitted from double IHT threshold as my mum died within a certain number of years of my dad.
The estate agent selling the house said he'd never known probate to come through in such a short time.
