Trump incites anger, hatred and intolerance. His arrogance and boastful nature will incite war in his country and if he gets in as president, woah to the world.

The Republicans gave him too much space and now it may be too late to shut him down.

To be honest, going back to UK poiliticians, none of them are remotely psychpathic or evil; just shit. Weasly, cowardly and incompetent. This whole Brexit fiasco was like a game of Risk played in the upper Sixth Common room of Eton. Cameron decided to hold a referendum on an issue that no major party considered important in their election manifestoes ( I don't count UKIP as important since Farage fucked off at the first opportunity after pissing off all the MEPs with whom we will have deal with in order to clean up the mess he helped to create). IDS is an habitual loser who is the epitome of Lenin's "useful fools". Boris Johnson is nothing more than a chancer with a plummy accent and some ability to spout nonsense in acient Greek or Classical Latin. Osborne is deliciously a victim of circumstances; bet Cameron isn't on his Christmas card list.

Trump? Yet another scion of privilege playing at being the self-made man. America's class system isn't quite as blatant as ours but it exists nevertheless. Putin must laugh himself to sleep at the thought of that weirdly coiffured arse being his main opponent.

Sky bet - rather oddly to my eyes are offering 4/1 on Trump having 2 terms but 5/2 on him leaving office in 2017.

I've heard a few folk ponder whether Trump will see out his four years. The various scenarios being mooted are he'll either get bored of being corralled by legislation and the US constitution and resign in a fit of peak after he doesn't get his own way; he'll do something based in deception and his business interests and there'll be a massive scandal and he'll resign, or there will be a scandal and he'll be impeached.

And then we'll have Mike Pence, who is way more controlled and less overtly offensive, but is on the right of the party. But anything is better than the 'speak now, think never' Islamaphobic misogynistic currently residing in the West Wing.

Where's Jed Barlett when you need him?

What's the process in the US for when a POTUS leaves office mid term?

I assume it's not like ours where the Governing Party selects someone else, no election required - do they have to go though the whole democrat/republican primaries/selection then campaign again (which takes about 18 months).

He won't survive a year IMO. Picking fights with the press and Intelligence communities I not the way to longevity....

If POTUS leaves mid-term, the vice president steps up, and then they have to select a new VP. Nixon resigned rather than be impeached (so he could keep the pension) and his VP, Gerald Ford, stepped up. Ford, however, had not been elected VP, he'd been appointed when Spiro Agnew, who had been Nixon's running mate, was forced to resign following a tax scandal.

When Ford met Khreshchev, Khreshchev took great delight in pointing out he had been elected to run his country (however dodgy that election might have been), whereas Ford hadn't.

I went to the start of the thread first and failed to noticed the posting date. So when I clicked on the link I got a picture of Tony Blair.
