I heard the Dexy's version first. Then a fair bit later I found out about northern soul. I knew it was a cover but didn't put 2 and 2 together at that point.
OK, first of all thank you for posting "Happy" a few pages back, I haven't heard that for years and it brought a lot of memories flooding back - it was very popular at the Prestwich Soul Nights in Manchester about 20 years back.
