there are good session and bad sessions

some go along at their set pace, keep thier mind right, get the fluid, and keep going, when a little fatigue stes in anywhere ( 16 - 22 miles ) there's always good chance to quietly work through it

sometimes - depending on the physcological strength onbe can make themselves were hard and give it hell

but if one hits the WALL in real terms, the larthargic, exhusted, nothing left , - no amount of crowds will help

but a lot is as oggee says, total preparation

there was a runner on Fetch a few days ago who said

theres no amount of talk online that can prepare one for it

if one becomes injured at any point on route that could also exhaust one

our 5:27 Draycote marathon - 5 lapper some years ago

my hip gave out at 11 miles - i suffered and limped for 15 miles,

had it have been my first marathon- i'd have been finished i can tell you

all talk is easy-

it's dealing with it at the time - more so, knowing how to deal with it

The Penketh Runner
Thanks PH.

I'd like to think i always prepare relatively well. I always do at least an 18 miler 4 - 6 weeks before the big day and drop 2 miles a week off that long run. No running for 5 days before and lots of pasta dishes. A full english the morning of the race and plenty of "sports" drinks and jelly babies on the way round.

talking to peeps like onlne can make peps feel good, and almose like i 've got it

it can cause compleacancy, - confidence is good, cause nerves are no good

with some things in running long distance theres a fine line to draw

get a weekend hM wrong, so what, put the next one right in two weeks time

if Taunton Marathon goes wrong ,- put it right in Stratford in may

if The big one goes wrong you've ruined ure day

I remember my first marathon in 2002, got to 19 miles and Addidas had a billboard advert papered as a wall with the words “THE WALL…HAVE YOU HIT IT YET?”

And I thought to myself…that is really c*ntish.

Half a mile later and I was tottering down the road like Lily Savage in high heels !

Never worn addidas shoes ever since !
