Timbits—fried balls of dough taken from the centre of a doughnut, provided in a variety of flavours and toppings anyone? It got a bronze medal which speaks volumes about the competition.

Proper donuts don’t have the hole cut, the machine drops a ring shaped piece into the hot oil. It floats down, needs to be flipped partway and then drops off the end into caster sugar.

I operated the machine one summer. I never ever ate any of the donuts or gave any to my mates ;-)
