1:23 seems quite a specific time, any reason why?

and with a 2:55 marathon, I don't think you need a plan for 1:23, just go and run it. You should be aiming sub 80!

i'd agree with pdavey , I did a flat 1/2 in 80 just before a my first 2:55, No idea where you will find a half if you are in Devon. maybe this in France is nearest marathons.ahotu.com very flat and fast unless wind is from west

Cardiff in October ,flat, great crowd, great course. If not Gossport ,end of November is known for being a flat half. Good luck. |

The reason I said 1:23 is this is what the mcmillan calculator quotes for my marathon time. Running 1:20 I think at 6:06 per a mile seems a pipe dream. Cardiff is a race I'm looking at and we have the great west run in Devon as well. I'm also someone who has to work with a structured plan or I seem to lose my way so if anyone can recommend one that would be great.

I've not run a 10k for nearly 10 years and that was 39 mins then. I've run 3 marathons in the last 12 months and have nothing else in the bank to work with.

This will be my target for second half of this year too, I suspect. I'm 1:23:xx just now and it would be nice to PB again (it's been a while!) Sub 80 will be a longer term goal - might never get to that. I think I'll just make up my own plan and probably iterate over 4-5 week blocks and see if I can get any kind of speed back. Week: - - - - 1 x long run, probably no more than 15 miles, slow, hilly, fun. 1 x medium long, quicker, bit slower than tempo - e.g. start at 5, build up to 8/9 at HMP? 2 x general - easy 5 milers that I can do at work lunch time or before gym 1 x speed e.g. intervals (we have a club session on a Thu) or short tempo e.g. parkrun! *goreilla* 2 x gym work - stretch, strength, core e.g. Pilates, bodypump or specific running drills (I do all that anyway, think it's important for injury avoidance, as I am now in my later 40s!) Hope to see my 5K and 10K times get closer to PBs (but not expecting to actually beat them, we'll see). 3-4 weeks build up, then a week off, with wee races in there to track progress. Hope to get somewhere by e.g. Sept/Oct? Anyone else on this journey...? G |

i had this as a target for the spring. (Club 3rd standard) Happy G - your plan looks pretty similar to what i was doing. Group runs for the hmp tempo runs were great to keep the pace up. Although usually was not hitting hmp across the whole run. 10 k races in build up to gain confidence that i could split sub 39 and keep going. i got into a good rhthym with 10 milers, run solo but progressively, every other week or so.
