I’m somewhat a fan of electronic notebooks (searchable and no messing around finding the right notebook from three years ago) and to do lists (especially for small team management - tasks, subtasks, some automatically generated (doesn’t matter who changes the tape on Tuesday as long as somebody does it), assignment to particular people, due dates, sorting by priorities...

I like whiteboards for arguing things out, but don’t use them much even for that. They suffer too much from Grep’s Problem (b).

Blimey, things have certainly moved on from my old days of planning on a (A1?) flip chart.

I love the concept of BuJo as a means of separating the half-witted and feeble-minded from their hard-earned. It could only be better if there was a monthly subscription offer...

No good asking me, Greppers. I quit my job at the end of 2018 in part because I didn't want to spend any more days sat in an office and have since been tempted out of "retirement" to do some writing work from home. I've got a plain A4 sheet of paper with a list of all the writing jobs to do today (add a paragraph to chapter 3 on xxx, put an example of yyy in chapter 5 etc.) and I make tomorrow's list at the end of the day.

Always had several whiteboards in the office, used for explaining things to people, or small groups working through problems, never for to-do lists or posters or things like that.

Outside of writing, I use an A5 notebook with a to-do list in it. I also have a daily ticksheet for things I try to do every day (e.g. DuoLingo, music practice) which holds 3 months worth of ticks. I have a few online docs with lists of longer-term stuff - book ideas, things to make, places to visit etc. but these only get looked at every few months. Tried a bullet journal, ended up reverting to unorganised list with lines put through things that are done.

Re: Whiteboards

Am I the only person who still calls them "Nobo boards" and then sniggers?

On the subject of leaving stuff on whiteboards for ages. I once had a co-worker with quite serious bipolar disorder. While in a manic phase, he came into the office in the early hours of the morning and filled several whiteboards with detailed diagrams and explanations of a groundbreaking new invention related to the stuff we were working on.

When the rest of us arrived at work, we thought it looked like nonsense, but it had to stay up there for a few months until he was better, on the off-chance there was some spark of genius in it.

Nobo boards indeed, but then I still say 'wireless', mainly to annoy my boss (late 20s) and my Super (late 30s).

Thanks Cerra - that was helpful.
