If we're talking road marathons and not trail marathons, what do we think is the hardest ?

Not run it myself, but my immediate thought ( and without going and checking what all the road marathons are ) would probably be Loch Katrine ?

May well have overlooked something harder though..............

Borders? 23 and bit laps of 1.1 miles. Soul destroying. ;-)

Strathearn is hilly as heck.

Trail ones - ooh, Skyline, Ben Nevis etc. :-) G

Found it in someone's log ( the new link to people's log from the race listing is ace for this sort of thing ! ) and it calculates as 560m of climbing.

Freudian slip LG?! "... best just enter a marathon..." Yip, sounds right. Let us know which one you go for?! (Edinburgh 2018 still has places, gives 9 months to train and it's net downhill!) :-) G

If I do another one, it'll be a city marathon

I know Loch Ness marathon isn't a country marathon per se, but I fancy some pavements and crowds all the way round!

Stirling looks as if it will be good next year, Maz. It will be starting in Stirling then going out past Blair Drummond, then back via Doune, Dunblane, Bridge of Allen again. That should remove the two biggest complaints from this year - the buses to the start and the 2.5 x 3.5 mile laps round the city centre at the end.

Just the price to fix now..... £58 next year!

Maz, don't think there's anything in Scotland that meets that criteria - I'd recommend Manchester. It's very flat, great support for about 23 or 24 miles ( there's a bit out by Carrington that's quiet ), easy to get into, and easy for accomodation, travel, etc
