Just read that Glen Clova had 285 places & a huge waiting list. But only 208 turned up with 3 deferrals.

Bad form that.

I'd say that's pretty normal Ally. Also, I might be in those stats!

I did enter, went on waiting list, was offered and took and paid for place. Was then injured, but decided to go up and cheer. Notified club on the day that I would be a DNS, but wanted my mug and soup and they were fine with that.

Many races anticipate a reduction in total numbers running on the day and allow for that in their entry numbers. :-) G

Fair enough if you’re injured HappyG(rrr).

But folk should try and inform the organisers so they can re-offer places if they’ve time imho.

The usual excuse for low turnouts is no deferrals/swaps allowed. So if there is that option it’s a real shame.

Doesn't seem a massive change over the years. Was 250-260 pre pandemic. About 210-220 now?

Maybe more people do DNS now than before?

I think the trend in rising DNS numbers started a couple of years pre-pandemic. The Jimmy Irvine Bella 10K a couple of weeks ago had over 700 entries (750 places available, I think only 20-30 were left on closure). 553 starters. So around 23% non-starters. For a midday start in about as good running conditions as you'll get in November.
